The two official ways to buy FL Studio
Image-Line's knowledge base is direct about this. An official copy of FL Studio can be bought only:
- directly from image-line.com, as a download, or
- from a licensed distributor listed on Image-Line's distributors page.
When we checked that distributors page on 19 October 2026, it listed no distributor in Nigeria. The African countries on it were Egypt and South Africa. For a buyer in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt, that leaves Image-Line's own online shop.
The shop sells FL Studio as a download, with lifetime free updates. Its gift certificates are paused: Image-Line's gift page now opens with “GIFT CERTIFICATES ARE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE” and explains “How to gift FL Studio without a certificate” instead. The buyer creates a new account during the purchase, and Image-Line is explicit about the name: “Use the name of the recipient, not your name.” After the purchase, the buyer changes the account's email and password to the recipient's. That detail matters later, because it lets someone else pay for a license that still ends up in an account in your own name.
Why naira cards fail on Image-Line's checkout
Image-Line does not process cards itself. It hands you to third-party payment partners (it names PayPal and Stripe as examples), and those partners decide whether to accept the card. Image-Line says it has “no idea or information on why the transaction was declined”, so its support team cannot approve a refused payment by hand.
Image-Line is based in Belgium, so for a Nigerian card every FL Studio order is a foreign online payment to Europe. Image-Line's own advice is to check with your card company that the card is allowed “to be used for internet payments” and “to make overseas payments (to Europe)”.
With a naira card, the bank decides both things: whether the card works for foreign online payments at all, and how much it can spend abroad over a period. Nigerian banks set and change these limits themselves, so the only reliable figure is the one your bank gives you for your own card, in its app or from customer care.
A failed payment usually leaves an order marked “unpaid” in your Image-Line account. Image-Line says to allow up to 30 minutes for a payment to process, that you are not charged for an unpaid order, and that unpaid orders are cancelled automatically. You do not need to contact support to remove them.
Free fixes to try first
- Turn on international online payments for your card. In your bank app or with customer care, enable foreign web payments on the card and ask what its current international spending limit is. Then retry with an edition that fits inside that limit.
- Pay with a dollar card if you have a domiciliary account. If you hold a USD domiciliary account, ask your bank whether it issues a debit card for it. A card that spends from a dollar balance is not bound by your naira card's foreign-spending limit, although the bank can set separate limits on it.
- Choose PayPal at checkout and pay by card as a guest. Image-Line suggests selecting the PayPal option, if it is offered for your country, because PayPal lets you pay with a card without creating a PayPal account. A different payment partner sometimes accepts a card that the first one refused.
- Try another card, once the unpaid order has cleared. Wait the 30 minutes Image-Line asks for. If the order is still unpaid, order again with a different card or method rather than retrying the same card several times in a row.
- Ask someone you trust abroad to buy it on an account in your name. Image-Line itself suggests asking friends or family to order for you. Ask them to follow Image-Line's gifting steps rather than buy a license on their own account: they create a new account with your name at checkout, using their own temporary email and password, then change the account's email and password to yours, so the license is in your name from the start.

Avoid marketplace “activation” listings
Searches for FL Studio in Nigeria turn up marketplace listings offering “activation” or “lifetime” copies. None of these sellers is one of the two official sources above.
Image-Line's knowledge base warns against G2A, eBay, Craigslist “or other auction sites”, and the rule behind the warning applies to any marketplace:
We do not allow license transfers between customers (see Terms of Use). This means that selling, purchasing, gifting or receiving FL Studio as second hand is forbidden.
Image-Line also says it will not transfer a used, open-box or already registered license to your account, and that fraudulently obtained serials are sometimes sold on auction sites. The risks it lists are a license that does not work, permanent loss of access to the account “at any moment”, no customer support, no access to the FL Studio forums and no lifetime free updates. A “patched” copy is not a license at all.
If you only want to try FL Studio first, you do not need any of these. Image-Line offers “fully functional and time-unlimited trial versions” on its site.
