What “Do Not Honor” means on 2Checkout
2Checkout, now part of Verifone, takes card payments for many software sellers. KeyShot is one of them: its general terms name 2Checkout as the merchant of record, responsible for payment, billing and cancellation of subscriptions, and its help centre refers to licenses bought “directly through 2Checkout”. When you buy KeyShot Studio on keyshot.com, your card is charged by 2Checkout, not by KeyShot.
We found no 2Checkout page for shoppers that explains its error messages. The clearest one comes from MyRouteOnline, a company that sells its subscriptions through 2Checkout:
Authorization Failed: Do Not Honor
According to that guide, your details passed validation on 2Checkout's side and a real authorization request reached your bank, which declined it. The most common cause it names: the seller is in a different country from your bank, so the charge shows up as an international transaction.
“Do Not Honor” is a generic refusal from the card issuer, not a 2Checkout rule. Stripe's list of decline codes, for comparison, describes do_not_honor as “The card was declined for an unknown reason” and says the customer needs to contact the card issuer. Only your bank can tell you why it refused.
The same guide lists two related messages. They need different fixes, so check which one you got:
| Message | What happened | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Authorization Failed: Do Not Honor | Your bank received the request and declined it | Ask the bank to approve the charge, then order again in a new session |
| Authorization Failed: Authentication Failed | The 3-D Secure check (Verified by Visa or Mastercard SecureCode) did not complete; usually the bank never saw the payment | Make sure your bank's page opens, turn off pop-up blockers, and enrol the card in 3-D Secure |
| Authorization Failed: Authorization Failed | 2Checkout locked the purchase session after several failed attempts | Wait 30 minutes, or clear cookies and restart the browser, then order again |
How common are cards that refuse foreign charges? 2Checkout's own documentation gives one example: it says “nearly 20% of Turkish cards do not support international transactions”. If your card is one of them, ask your bank whether international payments can be switched on; if they can't, use a card from another bank or a different payment method.
Free fixes to try first
These steps come from the 2Checkout merchant guide above and from KeyShot's own pages. Make one attempt after each change: repeated declines lock the purchase session.
- Call your bank and approve the charge. The bank can see the declined attempts. Tell it you want the payment to go through, ask whether the card is enabled for online and international payments, then place the order again.
- Start a new purchase session before you retry. If the same error appears straight after the bank approves, the session is probably still locked. Wait 30 minutes, use a different browser, or clear your cookies and restart the browser, then place a new order.
- Let the 3-D Secure page load. If the message says “Authentication Failed”, you should be sent to a page on your bank's server. If it does not appear, turn off your pop-up blocker. If your card is not enrolled in 3-D Secure, ask your bank to set it up.
- Try another card or method. If the payment page lists another option, or you have a card from a different bank, use that instead of the same card again.
- Keep working on the trial. KeyShot's pricing page offers a 14-day free trial with full features at trial.keyshot.com, with no credit card required. It gives you time to sort the payment out with your bank.
- Ask KeyShot about a reseller. KeyShot's help centre mentions licenses bought “through a reseller or partner”, and its terms say a reseller's own terms govern payment. KeyShot's sales team (contact page on keyshot.com) can tell you whether a partner serves your region.
Before you buy KeyShot Studio another way
KeyShot's pricing page lists Professional at $1,299.00 per year (an individual seat) and Business at $1,599.00 per year (individual seats, transferable), both billed annually, as of October 2026. Three points in KeyShot's general terms matter if anyone other than you pays:
- One named user. Each subscription license “is allocated to a single named User and must not be shared, reassigned, transferred, pooled, or used by any other person”. You can use it on up to three computers, one at a time.
- Professional stays with its user. Switching the named user is allowed only for companies on the Business and Enterprise plans, at most once in three months. A Professional seat cannot be moved to another person later.
- Renewal is automatic. A subscription paid by card renews and is charged automatically unless automatic renewal is turned off in the account portal before the term ends.
KeyShot's help centre separates the user account of the person who runs KeyShot from the billing owner account that manages invoices and renewals; for orders placed directly through 2Checkout, the owner email is adjusted in the 2Checkout order. In practice: do not buy a seat that already belongs to someone else, and make sure any order placed for you carries your email from the start.
Buy KeyShot Studio with crypto through Unboxkey
If your bank keeps refusing, we can place the order for you. You pay us in crypto, we pay KeyShot's 2Checkout checkout, and the subscription is registered to your own KeyShot account: your email is set as the end user and owner on the order, and you sign in to KeyShot Studio with it.
One condition. We are still confirming on a first test order that KeyShot's checkout accepts a customer's email as end user and owner on an order we pay for. If you want an answer before you pay, write to [email protected]. If we can't register the subscription to your account, we don't buy it, and the guarantee below applies.
KeyShot Studio
Price shown for Professional, 1 year. Business, 1 year is on the product page.
$1,363.95total, fee included
- 1-year subscription on your own KeyShot account, with you as end user and owner
- Typically within 2 hours of payment confirmation (09:00–21:00 UTC), at most 24 hours
If we can't buy your license, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, with no deductions.
The seat is a named-user subscription for your own use. Pick Business if your company may need to switch the user later. The steps of an order are on How it works, the coins and networks we accept are on How to pay, and answers about refunds and delivery are in our FAQ.
FAQ
What does “Authorization Failed: Do Not Honor” mean?
Your card details passed 2Checkout's checks and your bank refused the authorization request. A 2Checkout merchant's help guide says the most common cause is that the seller is in a different country from your bank, so the charge looks international. Only your bank can tell you the exact reason.
How long should I wait before I try again?
Ask your bank to let the payment through first. Then wait 30 minutes, or clear your cookies and restart the browser, or switch browsers: 2Checkout locks the purchase session after repeated declines, and only a new session gets a real new attempt.
What is the difference between “Authentication Failed” and “Do Not Honor”?
“Authorization Failed: Authentication Failed” means the 3-D Secure step, the page from your bank that asks you to confirm the payment, did not complete; in most cases the bank never sees the payment. “Do Not Honor” means the bank saw the request and refused it.
Can I buy a KeyShot seat that someone else already owns?
No. KeyShot's general terms allocate each subscription license to a single named user and say it must not be shared, reassigned or transferred. Switching the named user is allowed only for companies on the Business and Enterprise plans. Your seat should be in your name from the start.
