What the message means
Stripe processes card payments for many online shops, and this is one of its standard decline messages. Stripe's support centre has a page titled with the exact wording:
Your card does not support this type of purchase
Behind it is the decline code card_not_supported. Stripe's list of decline codes describes it as “The card doesn’t support this type of purchase” and says: “The customer needs to contact their card issuer to make sure their card can be used to make this type of purchase.” The refusal comes from your bank, not from the shop.
Stripe's support page names three causes:
- A debit card that needs a PIN. Some debit cards require a PIN. Stripe's advice is to use a different card.
- A cross-border restriction. If your card was issued in a different country from the business you are paying, your bank may restrict cross-border use. Ask the bank whether the restriction exists and whether it can be lifted.
- An HSA or FSA card. These US health-account cards may only work for certain business categories, such as healthcare or travel.
Music software buyers meet this message because some shops, iZotope's among them, take cards through Stripe. iZotope says so directly: “In case our payment provider Stripe refuses to accept your payment, there is nothing we can do manually in order to validate your payment.” Whichever shop shows you this exact message, the causes and fixes below apply.
Free fixes to try first
These steps come from Stripe's and the developers' own help pages. Make one change before each new attempt; the same card with the same details is likely to be refused again.
- Ask your bank about cross-border payments. Tell the bank the shop is abroad and ask whether your card blocks cross-border online purchases. If it does, ask whether the block can be lifted for this payment. Arturia's help article on failed 3-D Secure checks adds that your bank may require you to authorize international purchases, and that a payment can be flagged as suspicious because of the shop's location.
- Use a credit card instead of a PIN-only debit card. iZotope's web shop takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and Diners Club International credit cards, plus Visa debit and some local debit cards.
- Do not use an HSA or FSA card for software. Stripe says these cards may only work in certain business categories. Use a regular card or another method.
- Check the order form. iZotope's checklist before you retry: the cardholder's name is entered correctly, the billing address matches the card, 3-D Secure is set up for your Visa or Mastercard, and you are not using a proxy service.
- Pay with PayPal, Klarna or another method. iZotope offers PayPal and PayPal Credit, and Klarna in 17 countries including the United Kingdom and the United States; add the products to the cart and enter your full address to see what your region gets. Arturia lists credit card, PayPal, Klarna, Alma, Google Pay, Apple Pay, WeChat Pay and Alipay, “and more”.
- Buy from a dealer in your own country. A local shop may accept your card without a cross-border charge. Bitwig's Buy Local page lists retailers by country. iZotope serials bought from retailers can be added to your iZotope account, and an Arturia serial bought from a dealer registers in your own Arturia account.
iZotope's shop currently does not offer PayPal in Turkey; our guide on buying iZotope Ozone in Turkey covers the other routes there.
If someone else pays: how each license reaches you
If a friend with a working card offers to buy for you, the license has to end up in your own account. Each developer handles this differently:
- Bitwig Studio. Since November 2022, a webshop purchase is registered automatically to the buyer's Bitwig account. To avoid that, the buyer ticks the gift option in the cart; Bitwig then emails the license information to the person receiving it.
- Arturia V Collection. You register a product in your Arturia account with its serial number and Unlock Code, then install it through Arturia Software Center. A product already registered to someone else can be unregistered by its owner only after 6 months, or moved earlier through an Arturia support ticket, so it is simpler if the serial goes straight into your account.
- iZotope Ozone. A store or retailer purchase comes with an email containing a serial number that starts with SN-. For retail serials, you sign in to iZotope Product Portal and add the product with the plus button. Only the original owner can ask iZotope to transfer a license, and a license that was already transferred cannot be transferred again.
Buy it with crypto through Unboxkey
If the card keeps failing, we can buy the license for you. You pay us in crypto, we buy it from the developer's store or an authorized dealer, and we email it to you to register in your own account. See How it works for the steps and How to pay for the coins and networks we accept.

FAQ
Is “Your card does not support this type of purchase” a problem with the shop?
Usually not. It is the Stripe decline code card_not_supported: your card issuer does not allow this type of purchase on the card. Stripe says the customer needs to contact the card issuer, and iZotope says it cannot validate a payment manually once Stripe refuses it.
Will it work if I try the same card again?
Not unless something changes. Ask your bank to lift the restriction first, or switch to a different card or payment method.
Why does my debit card fail online when it works in local shops?
Stripe names two likely reasons: some debit cards require a PIN, and some banks restrict cross-border use when the card was issued in a different country from the business. For the first, Stripe suggests a different card; for the second, ask your bank whether the restriction can be lifted.
Can a friend buy Bitwig Studio for me?
Yes. Bitwig's webshop registers a purchase to the buyer's own Bitwig account automatically, unless the buyer ticks the gift option in the cart. With the gift option, the license information is emailed to the person receiving it, who registers it in their own account.
Does PayPal work in the iZotope web shop everywhere?
No. iZotope says PayPal is not available in Kosovo, Montenegro, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin (French part), Serbia and Turkey. The shop shows the methods for your region after you add products to the cart and enter your full address.
