How McNeel sells Rhino, and why crypto is not on the list
Rhino is made by Robert McNeel & Associates. McNeel's Buy page detects your region and shows three ways to get a license: “Shop online” in the McNeel store, a list of authorized resellers for your country, and a phone number or e-mail address for the regional McNeel office. None of the sales pages, the store or the download pages we read on 19 October 2026 mentions cryptocurrency.
A few facts from McNeel's own pages help before you look for another way to pay:
- Price. The North America list shows “Rhino 8 - Single Concurrent User US$ 995” and the upgrade from “any older version” at US$ 595. McNeel adds: “International prices may vary. Prices do not include taxes.”
- Term. “All purchased licenses are permanent and do not expire.” McNeel adds that prices include support and service releases for the current version and that “There are no maintenance fees.”
- Platforms. The commercial license is listed as “Full - Windows and/or Mac”.
- Seats. The license agreement says “Rhinoceros is licensed, not sold” and that the number of sessions running at the same time “does not exceed the number of licenses you own”.
- Delivery. “All products are shipped electronically.” A license key is added to a Rhino account in the Licenses portal, and with a Rhino account “the license follows you between your computers”.
Rhino 9 was not on sale when we checked. McNeel's Rhino 9 page existed but had no product details, so the license you can buy today is Rhino 8.
Free routes to try first
These cost nothing beyond the license itself. Try them in this order.
- Run the 90-day evaluation. McNeel's download page offers Rhino 8 for Windows or Mac to “Try this full version one time for 90 days. Saving and plugins stop working after 90 days.” Make sure Rhino fits your work before you spend money on it. Note that McNeel says “Evaluation versions are NOT upgradable”, so the evaluation does not qualify you for the upgrade price.
- Buy in the McNeel store for your region. Open rhino3d.com/sales and choose “Shop online”. The checkout shows the payment methods available for your order.
- Ask an authorized reseller. The same page lists resellers for your country or state. Each reseller runs its own checkout and sets its own payment methods, so ask before you order. If a listed reseller accepts the method you have, that is the most direct route.
- E-mail McNeel's regional sales office. McNeel's contact page lists six regional offices: Europe, Middle East and Africa; North America and Pacific; Latin America; Asia; Korea; and Japan. In April 2026 a buyer on McNeel's forum said no reseller was listed for his country. A McNeel staff member replied “That is only if you purchase from a reseller” and pointed him to the Europe, Middle East and Africa sales address, [email protected], saying “they should be able to sell you a license.” Ask the office for your region which payment methods it can accept.
- Check whether your old key is upgradable. If you already own an earlier Rhino, McNeel sells an upgrade for “any older version”, and its sales page links a check called “Is your license key upgradable?”. The upgrade costs less than a full license.
Avoid “lifetime key” sites
You may come across sites selling “lifetime license” Rhino keys at a fraction of McNeel's price. Signs that a seller is not offering a genuine commercial license:
- The price is far below McNeel's list, and the seller does not appear on McNeel's reseller list for any country.
- It sells educational or NFR keys to anyone. McNeel's license agreement says “Educational, Educational Lab, Not For Resale, and Not For Resale Lab licenses are not transferable and cannot be sold, shared, used by, or transferred to another user or entity.” An educational key resold to you breaks that rule.
- You get a login instead of a key. A shared Rhino account is not a license sold to you, and the owner can take it back.
- The seller sends its own installer, a patch or an activator. Rhino installs from rhino3d.com and activates with a key; anything else is a crack and a malware risk.
Buy it with crypto through Unboxkey
Unboxkey is an independent service, not affiliated with McNeel. If the official routes cannot take your payment, we buy a new commercial Rhino 8 key for you from McNeel or an authorized dealer and email it to you.
- Open Rhino 8 in our catalog and choose the edition: the full license, or the upgrade if you own an earlier Rhino license key.
- Pay the exact total shown at checkout in USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH or another listed coin. How to pay lists every coin and network.
- Once your payment is confirmed on the blockchain, we buy the key.
- We email you the Rhino 8 license key. Log in to the Rhino Licenses portal, click your name, click Add License, enter the key, then start Rhino and log in with the same e-mail address. You can also enter the key in Rhino.
The total is McNeel's US list price plus our 5% fee, shown as one number. Educational and NFR licenses are not offered. The upgrade needs an earlier Rhino license key that belongs to you. How it works covers each step of an order in more detail.

If we can't buy your license, we refund the full amount you paid, in the same coin, with no deductions.

FAQ
Does McNeel accept crypto for Rhino?
We found no crypto option on rhino3d.com, in the McNeel store or on McNeel's sales pages. McNeel sells Rhino through its online store, authorized resellers and regional sales offices. Resellers set their own payment methods, so ask the one you want to use.
Is a Rhino 8 license perpetual?
Yes. McNeel's sales page says that all purchased licenses are permanent and do not expire. The commercial license is sold for Windows and/or Mac, and the number of Rhino sessions running at the same time may not exceed the number of licenses you own.
Can I buy an educational Rhino license through Unboxkey?
No. McNeel's license agreement says Educational, Educational Lab, Not For Resale and Not For Resale Lab licenses are not transferable and cannot be sold, shared, used by or transferred to another user or entity. We only sell commercial Rhino 8 licenses.
Can I use the upgrade price if I only have the evaluation version?
No. McNeel says evaluation versions are not upgradable. The upgrade needs an earlier Rhino license key that belongs to you. If you do not have one, choose the full license.
Can I buy Rhino 9?
Not yet. When we checked on 19 October 2026, Rhino 9 was not on sale and McNeel's Rhino 9 page had no product details. The license you can buy today is Rhino 8.
